Overview

This webpage provides information for the workshop on

Visual guidance systems for small autonomous aerial vehicles

The detailed program can be downloaded here.

which will take place in conjunction with the upcoming IROS 2008, held in Nice, France, September, 22-26.

The objective of the workshop is to bring together researchers from fields such as robotics or control engineering to discuss about novel sensors, avionics and autopilots that will be embedded onboard future miniature aerial robots.

Special issue in Autonomous Robots will come out of the workshop (papers due Feb, 1, 2009).

The topics of interest include:

Sensors and Avionics

  • Embedded electronic architecture (FPGA, DSP, ASIC, micro-controller...) for UAVs
  • Identification of the most relevant sensory modalities
  • Novel visual sensors for autonomous navigation
  • Bio-inspired sensors

Autopilot and Flight abilities

  • Navigation without GPS
  • Navigation in cluttered environments
  • Indoor flight
  • Attitude control
  • Vision-based obstacle avoidance
  • Bio-inspired sensory-motor control systems

A more extensive list of related topics is available in the workshop description page, which reflects the workshop proposal.

Important dates

  • Abstracts (about 2 pages) should be sent directly to the organizers by July 7, 2008 (this is a firm deadline). Paper size should not exceed 2 Mb.
  • The Workshop will take place on Monday September 22.
  • Submission of full paper to the special issue in Autonomous Robots : Thursday January 15, 2009. All the papers will be submitted to a peer review process.
